Among the large variety of Chinese traditional musical instruments, Chinese pipa is one of plucked instruments with great expressive force, and it ranks among the top three Chinese plucked instruments together (the other two are Chinese Guqin and Guzheng). With its development and evolution of 2000 years and the inheritance of our predecessors, pipa music becomes various and the fingering technique becomes complicated as well. For young student, it is quite difficult to learn pipa. Traditional pipa enlightenment teaching is boring, compared with the new teaching method. At the initial study stage, children may have high interest in pipa which are fresh and can cause enthusiasm to them. However, the long-term monotonmous teaching method, complicated fingering technique and profoundness of traditional music may make younger children feel anxious and panic, generate a sense of distance or even lose the interest in pipa.Based on author’s own practice and research, this essay tries some innovative and proper children-oriented pipa teaching methods, according to the characteristics of children mental activities, which helps to lay a good foundation for future teaching, develop various abilities of children in all-round way and cultivate the musicianship, interest and cultural attainment of children. Meanwhile, the overall quality and professional level of teacher needs to be strengthened and parent’s attention on children’s music instrument learning needs to be focused. This essay attempts to not only break through the previous boring teaching method, but also provide auxiliary help to primary pipa teaching and provide reference to cultivating musicianship of children. The author also hopes this essay can contribute to the primary pipa teaching.
