Modern Chinese personal pronoun is developed with the introduction of Indo-European grammar. In linguistics, it’s representation of the grammatical category of discourse role. The general personal pronoun of the language is a group of words to refer to the speaker, the listener and the third person, so Chinese is a kind of language which is lack of morphological changes. Also there is no legal and morphological changes in the personal pronouns in modern Chinese. Linguists may study its formal and grammatical meaning from the lexical and grammatical perspectives,or examine its discourse coherence from the discourse perspective,or research its pragmatic context signified from the discourse perspective;or test its real meaning from the social linguistic perspective. Nevertheless, they didn’t make effort to doa systematic and comprehensive study of the third person pronoun’ he’ in Chinese.Analysis of the phenomenon of composition, by combining previously, research focuses on the first and second person pronouns of the research, while this composition uses modern Chinese third person pronoun ’he’ as the research object, mainly makes use of the ’three plane’ theory. Based on literature collection analysis and summary, the combination of description and explanation, the combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis, comprehensive use inductive method and deductive method,the composition has a systemic analysis of Chinese third person pronoun ’he’ syntactic function (sentences), semantic function (real, virtual means, transferred referent phenomenon and pragmatic function (reference, interpersonal, cohesion, hint function) in syntactic, semantic, pragmatic, cognitive and social point of view. This paper breaks through the traditional understanding of the obvious contradiction between the first person, the second person and the third person in the internal universal representation of the personal pronoun system. The exploring of third person pronoun ’he’ theoretical framework may have theoretical value and actual reference value to the third person pronoun research and cognitive linguistics research. In the meanwhile, ithas an important guiding significance on the domestic Chinese third person pronoun teaching and teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
