Thanks to the rapid strengthening of China’s comprehensive national strength, the relationship between Australia and China has become increasingly close, it’s scale of Chinese teaching is also gradually growing. Due to less population, higher education resources and other reasons, Australia’s class size is generally smaller. In order to cooperate with the local teaching, the Chinese teaching in Australia also takes the small class teaching model. In addition, the domestic for small class teaching research started relatively later than European and American countries, Chinese teaching for overseas of small class study is so few of them, it is my honor to be a Chinese teacher in Australia Confucius Institute at the University of Newcastle for a year, to observe and study the Confucius’s small class Chinese teaching model and taking Chinese students in 2016 the intermediate class three as the study subject, to analyze Australian small class’s Chinese teaching.In the first chapter, this paper expounded the significance of this study, summarizes the domestic and foreign research on small class teaching and Chinese teaching of small class teaching, and putted forward the research contents and methods of this paper. In the second chapter, through the analysis of a large amount of reading about class size and small class teaching of Chinese’s literature, analyzed the characteristics of small class teaching, defined for Chinese teaching in small class in Australia, then tried to analyze the background and reasons of the Australian small class teaching of Chinese as a second language. In the third chapter, according to the specific implementation of small class Chinese teaching, I putted forward the curriculum design of Chinese teaching in the first semester of the first semester of 2016 in Australia Confucius Institute at the University of Newcastle, and putted forward the curriculum design of the whole course. This paper analyzed the teaching conditions of Confucius College at the University of Newcastle, and putted forward the teaching strategies of Chinese teaching in small class under this circumstances. In order to better discuss the Australian small class Chinese teaching, I took one of the courses as an example in the fourth chapter, designed the implementation of the Chinese language teaching program in detail according to class hours. After the practice of the teaching design, the fifth chapter summarized the students’feedback and teachers’ reflection, so that the teaching design can provide some reference value for the application of small class teaching in Chinese as the second language teaching. The sixth chapter is the conclusion part of this paper, to make a summary of this study, putted forward the shortcomings.
