A Report On Chinese-english Translation Of Reflections On Emancipating The Mind And Developing Mangshi

Political essays focus on politics and mainly include national or regional policies, principles, interests and other major aspects with distinct political characteristic. As typical texts of political literature in Chinese, local political essays have the common features such as being formal, objective, less exaggerated, having fewer adjectives, more verbs, more parallel sentences and sentences with no subject and other features. I have written this translation report on the basis of independently completing the translation of a political essay “Reflections on Emancipating the Mind and Developing Mangshi”. Through the summary of styles and language features of the translated paper, this report focuses on how to properly select translation skills in translating political documents and proposes the feasible translation strategy—functional equivalence theory, and puts forward relevant suggestions for practical problem—how to avoid Chinglish in translating process. This report aims to summarize the practical experience of the translation project and provides specific practical references for similar translation practices. This report is divided into two chapters. Chapter one includes the source text and the translated text. Chapter two can be divided into four parts. The first part is the task description that introduces the topic of the translation project and the stylistic features of political literature. The second part describes the translating process, including preparation before translation and problems and difficulties in translation as well as the translation theories adopted in the process of translating. The third part includes translation strategies and case study. The fourth part summarizes the practical experience and existing problems of translating the political essay.
