Currently, scientific and academic research has improved in the large scale along with the development of economy. It is just academic articles that can express new and authoritative research results. Considering gaps between China and some developed countries in scientific and academic level, translation of foreign academic articles becomes greatly indispensable for China. Furthermore, with the process of industrialization, environmental problems partly caused by greenhouse gas get increasingly serious. According to UESPA, among all the greenhouse gases, CO2 emission accounts for about 77% and the amount is still increasing. China is an energy superpower and the problem spots here. Therefore, it is urgent to study on translation of foreign academic articles on CO2 capture. This paper is based on the translating process of 20 pieces of academic papers in English. These papers are downloaded in Elsevier Science Direct(a database)containing journals named Fuel and Energy Applied, and are published from 2010 to2015 with the total words from 2,000 to 10,000 of each piece. As for features, it is objective in expression and logical in content. These features are also analyzed from lexical, syntactic and textual aspects in detail. Due to strict connection with science and technology, features of these papers also accords with features of English for Science and Technology(EST), including the wide use of acronyms, compounds, nominalization, long sentences and passive sentences, etc.The guiding theory of translating process is the Genre Theory. Studies on GenreTheory in western countries can be divided into three schools. Theory of Applied Linguistics represented by Swales and Bhatia can guide the translation of academic articles. Genre Theory not only focuses on language and structural features within a text, but also puts an eye on factors beyond a text, like communicative purpose. Thus during translation, firstly, source text should be analyzed based on Genre Theory;then source text is reproduced by translating and reconstructing to achieve equivalence of language features, structure features and communicative purposes between source text and target text.On the basis of Genre Theory, this paper systematically analyzes and concludes translation strategies from lexical, syntactic, textual and abstract aspects; and puts forward corresponding translating skills, such as literal translation and free translation, etc. The five-move model is also introduced based on Bhatia’s four-move model to guide translation of abstract. However, due to lacking of professional knowledge and perfect translation competence, some limitations may exist in translation, analysis and report writing.
