An Art Study On Shadow Play Decoration Of Scenery In Xiaoyi, Shanxi

Shadow play has gone through thousands of years and generally formed its own producing method and performance mode. No matter the shadow figure or the shadow scenery decoration, all of them reflect the intelligence and sensibility of folk shadow artists.Xiaoyi Shadow Play is one of the most distinguishing shadow art in China with extremely important culture and art value.When I study these intangible cultural heritages with my tutor in Xiaoyi, Shanxi, it was the first time that I saw shadow play art. Due to the previous study on environment art and design,I was deeply interested in these shadow play environment decorations.It seems that I was talking to the thousands years history because their vitality. Naturally, I was eager to study the art of shadow play scenery decoration thoroughly.The market decoration of shadow play was called“dahuo” in Shaanxi and other districts. As for the screen decoration, it refers to the large buildings and landscape works used in the shadow play.The display decoration is the small furniture accessories which includes desks, chairs, plants and props.These scenery props are with highly decorative features, not only vivid, delicate but also intriguing, which are different from nowadays instant art.Shadow artists use three-dimensional architecture and furniture forms to fill the diaper ornament in order to finish the creation of shadow market decoration.Large shadow play includes jindian, shuanaizhang, guanfu, datang, park and so on. The small shadow play has desks, chairs, beds, screens, mirrors, etc.Thesescenery props are harmonious, modeling unique with the density pattern.Also, they are painted colorful and refined with rigorous process. So shadow play decorations are with great appreciation value and research feasibility.This study will analyze the environment decoration of shadow play from various aspects, such as architecture, furniture, plants, scenery,tools, props and so on. It mainly investigates the modeling, color, carving,pattern, design method of the market decoration in the shadow play.This paper aims to know the reflection of life and longings for future of ordinary people through the shadow play.Based on the present status of Xiaoyi shadow play, this paper will put forward feasible suggestions to the development of local shadow play in order to protect and develop the traditional folk art.Also, in this rapid development of information era, all these will make the art of market decoration of shadow play better docking with the modern art and provide the flow of inspiration and material for future design and creation. What’s more, this study will highlight the shadow play’s unique artistic charm and value in Xiaoyi, Shanxi.
