A Typological Investigation On The Phonetic Systems Of The Mien Dialect Of Yao Language

The Mian dialect which belongs to Miao-Yao language in Sino-Tibetan family is self-proclaimed Yao language, whose phonetic system is complicated and the number of the consonants,the vowels and the tones is large. Presently there is a small number of case studies on Mian dialect, the comparative research of Mian dialect’s phonetic structure from the angle of the typology of phonology is still blank in academia. Based on the Mian dialect’s phonetic system as the research object, the thesis tries to interpret the common characteristics and individual differences of Mian dialect’s phonetic system and reveal its the rules which contain in the language deeply from the perspective of the typology of phonology.This paper contains five chapters:The first chapter is the typology research of Mian dialect’s consonants. Based on the statistics and analysis of the phonetic date of affricate,media, clear nasal lateral, aspirates and consonant cluster of Mian dialect, the paper will deduce the implication rules and conclude the consonants’ common rules and individual differences of Mian dialect.The second chapter is the typology research of Mian dialect’s vowels. Based on the statistics and analysis of the phonetic date of the tongue and lip of the vowels, compound vowels and long and short vowels,the paper will compare the Mian dialect’s characteristics with the common features of the vowels of the world languages, conclude the vowels’ common rules and individual differences of Mian dialect.The third chapter is the typology research of Mian dialect’s tones. The paper will typology study Mian dialect’s tones from three aspects, the simple and complex degree of tones, the common features of tones and the typology of continuous modulation. Based on the statistics of the phonetic date of the tpye of tones and the features of the tones value,the paper will analysis the implication rules.The fourth chapter is the typology research of Mian dialect’s syllables. The paper will typology study Mian dialect’s syllables from two aspects, type of composition and structure of the syllables and he complexity of the syllables. Based on the statistics of the phonetic date of the type of syllables and the phonetic column combinations, the paper will conclude the type of syllables and analysis the advantage of phonetic column.The fifth chapter is typology study of the phonetic evolution of Mian dialect. The phonetic evolution of Mian dialect will be studied from five aspects,the type of evolution of the consonant cluster, the media, the lateral nasal initials and the consonants terminal,which will be the dynamic diachronic typological study on Mian dialect.
