This is a report on the translation of the second chapter of Blood and Earth: Modern Slavery,Ecocide, and the Secret to Saving the World(hereinafter referred to as Blood and Earth). The translator makes a comprehensive summation of the translation practice, and analyzes some cases and thus evaluates the translation task. The source text was written by Kevin Bales, which told the story of the author who traveled around the world for seven years to document the wretched lives of the enslaved and depicted the relationship between modern slavery and environmental destruction. As one of the documentary literary work,it centers on reflecting social life according to true stories and true experience. The author hoped that more reader would have to pay their attention to the social reality of human rights recorded in his works through his vivid description. This report includes four chapters, namely task description, process description, case analysis and conclusion. The first chapter mainly introduces the basic background of the task. The second chapter mainly introduces the three stages of the translation practice: translation preparations, translation process and translation quality control. The third chapter is case analysis taking semantic translation, communicative translation and text typology as theoretical guidance. The author of the report gives a comprehensive analysis of the features and purpose of the source text under text typology and chooses appropriate theories as guidance to the translation work.In order to be faithful to the source text in terms of content, form and style, the translator translates the dialogues and proper nouns under the guidance of semantic translation. In addition, the translator adopts reconstruction of long sentences, use of idiomatic expressions, conversion of passive voice and amplification under the guidance of communicative translation to produce an effect as close on the target readers as on the original readers. In the fourth chapter, the translator gives a conclusion of the translation and points out gains of this translation practice and inspirations for future translation practice.
