The patent specification is a kind of important technical material with relatively fixed writing forms and means of expression. The patent specification is both a legal document and a scientific &technical literature, thus uniting their stylistic features as one: stylized structure and expression, highly professional wording, frequent use of long sentences and compressed sentences, and a lot of inversion and absolute particle structures, etc. The translator selects a logging patent specification from USPTO(United States Patent and Trademark Office) as the target for this translation practice. With the aid of various translation tools, parallel texts and net resources while comprehensively applying different translation theories and skills, the translator accomplished the translation on time. This thesis describes the translation process, analyzes the problems and their corresponding coping strategies with concrete examples. In the end, the translator sums up the gains and deficiencies in this translation practice, looking forward to making comprehensive improvement to the translator’s quality. |
