A Multi-angle Study On Adverb “haozai”

Chinese adverb “Haozai” is the research object of this thesis, by comparing with the format “Haozai X", the paper aims at determining the scope of the adverb “Haozai” and analyzing its syntactic features and discourse characteristics, and to further explore its origin and grammatical process.First, this paper reviews the relevant literatures about the modal adverb and “Haozai” and to propose some new ideas about this study. This paper establishes the range of “Haozai” by comparing the main difference between the adverb “Haozai” and the format “Haozai X”; the differences include syntax, semantics and pragmatics.Based on this, the paper does a comprehensive analysis of the adverb “Haozai” about syntactic, semantic, pragmatic, it’s analyzes the features of its syntactic, builds semantic structure model of adverb “Haozai” and describes its pragmatic function.The paper further analyzes the text’s features of adverb “Haozai”, discusses the different situations that “Haozai” can disappear and can not disappear in text and the coherence of “Haozai” in the text from the perspective of cognitive psychology.Finally, the thesis discusses the process and mechanism of grammaticalization of “Haozai”, and what syntactic and semantic environment can push this process, and the motives and mechanisms behind the grammaticalization of “Haozai”.
