This is a translation report of Taking Sides—Clashing Views on Educational Issues(a selection). This translation project is selected from Taking Sides—Clashing Views on Educational Issues, a book edited by James W. Noll. As one of seven Taking Sides Books, this book selects ten hot topics referring to current field of education, providing the pros and cons of argument articles about the same issue from newspapers, court arguments, and parliament statements. Issue 1 and Issue 2 are selected as the translation project, with a total amount of about 13,000 words. The topic of Issue 1 is “Should Schooling Be Based on Social Experiences?” The topic of Issue 2 is “Should the Curriculum Be Standardized for All?”This report is conducted from the perspective of the Functional Equivalence of Eugene Nida,a famous contemporary translation theorist. From the three macro levels of semantic translation,lexical translation, and syntactic translation, this report analyzes some translation strategies, such as the flexibility of translation, concrete translation skills, transformation of voices and so on. The first chapter is a general introduction to the translation, including the source text and the translated text.The second chapter refers to the translation report, including four parts: introduction, analysis of the source text, process of the translating project, and summary of the translation.
