College English is a compulsory course for non-English majors. As the most crucial and fundamental portion in the higher education, it plays great roles in fostering language skills and comprehensive qualities of college students. English is not only the most widely-used international language but also one of the most important carriers of the human culture. With the globalization of the world economy and the gradual propulsion of “One Belt And One Road “strategy, college English’s teaching reform faces a series of new requests and challenges. Guided in the essential principle of Humanities and instruments integration, modern college English teaching improves students’ communicative competence and enhances their aesthetic sense, which serves students’ lifelong learning and overall development. Aesthetic education of college English is an inevitable choice in the course of the college English teaching reform. Based on the medium of aesthetic perception, aesthetic education of college English is the trilateral activity among the teaching content, teachers and students, in which teachers and students can cooperatively find the nature of human. The survey among 500 college students and 100 teachers shows that college English teachers are short of aesthetic literacy and stick to old teaching ideas and methods, which leads to students’ lack of aesthetic consciousness and judgment. John Dewey’s philosophy theory of "art comes from the experience of daily life" can effectively guide college English teaching, help to reach the language teaching target, enhance students’ English proficiency and aesthetic ability, therefore promote students ’ development. In the Light of Dewey’s Aesthetics, a mode of college English aesthetics teaching is set up and put into practice, following the sequence of experience preceding, environmental transformation, experience preliminary, reciprocal action, experience extension, experience sublimation. Analyzing the teaching effect of the experimental group and the controlled group, we found that the application of aesthetic teaching model of college English is helpful to promote college English teachers’ teaching capability and effective to improve the students’ language competence, aesthetic ability and cultural accomplishment, which finally achieve the harmonious integration of Humanities and tools-oriented value of college English teaching.
