This report is based on more than ten thousand words of E-C translation practice of Sinology Writings. The source text is an academic book on traditional Chinese culture. It mainly studies the development process of alchemy and “Great Clarity” tradition of traditional Chinese culture. Western Sinologists have quoted from a large number of classics and bibliography on ancient Chinese culture. Great Clarity is such a case, which contains lots of cultural elements on ancient Chinese alchemy and Taoism. And lots of the references and quotations are relatively uncommon for domestic readers. Therefore, in order to grasp the cultural details quoted in the original text, the translator should make full sense of the original text, and then carry out the literature contrast analysis and textual verification. It involves the Taoist cultural terms, quotations, historical facts and so on. The verification of cultural terms is to research Taoist terminology, names, title, etc. Quotation research means the verification of literature, while historical textual research means the verification of historical events. These aspects of Sinology Writings not only constitute the technology system of the verification of traditional Chinese cultural details, but also the basis of quality control of the translation of Sinology Writings. Thus, text research must be carried out to ensure the accuracy of the translation.This report verifies the details in ancient Chinese culture from three aspects, namely, terminology, quotations and historical facts. Meanwhile, it analyses that verification plays an important role in understanding source text well and improving the quality in translating Sinology Writings.
