This is a translation project of an excerpt of The Local Culture of Yiche People, which was written by Mao Youquan and Fu Guangyu. It is a book about Yiche people who are a branch of Hani minority nationality in Honghe Prefecture of Yunnan province, and the source text is an excerpt from chapter 10 to chapter 11. The two chapters are mainly about their traditional virtues and their colorful literature and arts. Due to Yiche people’s distinctive culture with striking characteristics, no reference can be found in the translation. Under the guidance of Verschueren’s adaptation theory, the writer translated the excerpted parts into English. The theory of linguistic adaptation claims how the communicator makes the adaptive linguistic choices to meet their communicative needs or attain the goal of communication in the certain language context. According to this, the translation can be regarded as a similar but more complicated inter-language communication. For the interaction, choices and the adaptation of such factors as society, culture, cognition and so on exist throughout the translation. In accordance with the original context, the target language readers and the target language culture, some translating methods such as domestication, literal translation, transliteration, free translation were appropriately applied to the translated version.Through the research, the readers can have a good understanding of Yiche people, their traditional virtue and arts. It is hoped that the report can be served as a proper reference in the study of Hani culture. Therefore, it is valuable to make Yiche culture known to the world.
