A Chinese-English Translation Project Report Of The Local Culture Of Yiche People (Chapter 5 To 7 ) From The Perspective Of Eco-translatology

Yunnan is a beautiful, wonderful and richly endowed province which is inhabited by more ethnic groups than other provinces in China. From the time immemorial, the ethnic groups here have lived in mingled or separate communities on friendly terms. They have not only worked, lived, and multiplied on this land, but also created the splendid materials and the spiritual civilization. Yiche people are one of the branches of Hani ethnic group. There are about 20,000 people in total, mainly living in three areas: Dayang Street, Langdi and Chegu town in Honghe County of the east foot of Ailao Mountain in Yunnan Province. The Local Culture of Yiche People is a book written by Mr. Mao Youquan and Mr. Fu Guangyu, which introduces the traditional culture and customs of Yiche people.In this translation report, the translator chose chapter five to seven to be the source text. The book of The Local Culture of Yiche People mainly discusses the local customs of Yiche people, especially from chapter five to seven which introduce the naming system, the funeral custom and the production custom which are the most important parts to show the characteristics of Yiche people.During the translation process, it is difficult to translate the minority customs into English well. The translation of minority customs needs a comprehensive analysis of the different readerships, the registers and the translator’s intention, to fully transform the contents of the source texts from the linguistic, cultural and the communicative dimension. Eco-translatology theory and the principle of taking the translation as adaption and selection serve as an effective way to analyze all the aspects of the folk customs, and can make the translation of the contents more relevant and veritable, convincingly eliminating the misunderstandings of Chinese minority culture by foreign readers.
