As a novel in the Early Tang, Yu-hsien-K’u(YHK) has been lost for a long time in China. It did not come back China from Japan until the Late Qing Dynasty where novels were increasingly popular. Therefore, it attracted a lot attention from scholars as a lost literature. Besides specific analysis of the novel, the researches and introductions of it are mainly from general literary histories, collections of novels and other series of lost ancient literature. The research towards scholarship of YHK will contribute to the research of the whole history of academics.The research of YHK in late Qing dynasty and Republic of China covers basically all possible research aspects of this novel. This article will mainly discuss the following six issues:First chapter is about the process of returning, publishing and acceptance of YHK. It was a winding story. At the very beginning, some poems of YHK were back to China with Lost Collection of Tang Poetry. The complete version of YHK was coming back later. The publishing is the last step, which is the start point of the widespread distribution of the novel.In next chapter this article switches focus to the research of YHK in Japan. It was complicated in terms of the distribution of YHK in Japan. YHK also was very influential in Japanese literature. Many scholars in Late Qing Dynasty and Republic of China travelled or studied abroad in Japan and most of them had more or less mentioned the Japanese version of YHK. They also translated some Japanese essays about YHK.The third chapter is about the author of YHK and the time of creation. This part is not contentious. It is also not a big component in the research.In the fourth chapter, this article will mainly target at the research of the texts in YHK. This part covers the most important researches, which includes the research of features of the novel forms, the reasons of forms, the contents and topics of the novel, the language styles of the novel etc.The fifth chapter includes the analysis of the influence of YHK and the status of the novel in literature history. This part includes how YHK affects the development of later literature and where the position of YHK should be in the history of novels.Last chapter is about the value of the research of YHK in these two periods. This article will focus on the overall comments of the research of YHK and the influence of the research of YHK to future academics.
