Consecutive Interpreting Quality Case Study Of The Signing Ceremony Of Memorandum Of Agreement On Guangwai-Lancaster University

In the context of globalization and China’s "going out" strategy, the communication between China and the world continues to be strengthened.It has brought the unprecedented development of the interpreting profession. In this case, the society is in urgent need of high-quality interpretation services, but identifying an interpretation’s quality is a common problem for employers.This paper studies the quality problems of conference interpreting through the following four aspects, Information fidelity, Language accuracy, Language flow quality and Strategy use.This paper selects the interpretation of Lancaster University Vice Chancellor Paul Wellings’ keynote speech as a case. This speech was delivered on “the Signing Ceremony of Memorandum of Agreement on Guangwai-Lancaster University” on October 26, 2011. The conference was held at the International Conference Hall, North Campus, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.The content of the speech mainly introduced the basic information of Lancaster University, their history of cooperation with Chinese universities and the significance of cooperation with Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.Based on Cai Xiaohong’s conference interpreting quality assessment framework, this paper has done a qualitative and quantitative analysis on the case in Information fidelity, Language accuracy, Language flow quality and Strategy use. In quantitative analysis, this paper used the method of weakness analysis which is often used in interpreting teaching and research. That is through statistics to judge interpreter’ errors so that analyze these errors’ influence on the interpretation.In this study, through the analysis of thiscase we have found that Cai Xiaohong’s interpreting quality assessment framework is feasible.Through qualitative and quantitative analysis of the case in four aspects of Information fidelity, Language accuracy, Language flow quality and Strategy use, we calculated the specific score of thisconference interpretation is 93.25(in hundred mark system).And found the advantages and disadvantages of Cai Xiaohong’s quality assessment framework forconference interpreting.
