This is a translation practice report about Nation-Building, Identity and Citizenship Education : Cross-cultural Perspectives(the part of introduction) co-written by Joseph Zajda, Holger Daun and Lawrence J. Saha.During this translation practice, the writer uses Hans Fimmel’s Skopos Theory. Hans Fimmel put forward three principles in his Skopos Theory which are skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule. Based on these principles as a guide for translation practice, the writer first translates the original into the desired form, and then ensures that the version conforms to the standard of textual coherence, and finally makes sure that the version should loyal to the original. Based on this, the writer comes to the conclusions from the perspective of lexical level and syntactical level. From the lexical level, the author analyzes the translation skills of lexical collocation and word meaning. From syntactical level, the writer describes such translation methods as Syntactic linearity and Inverted translation in the case of the analysis of translation practice. The whole translation project report is divided into five parts. Part One is the description of the task which briefly introduces the project background and the works. Part Two describes the task process including preparation, text reading, tools and reference preparation, and the schedule of the work. Part Three introduces the theoretical framework. The writer mainly uses Hans Fimmel’s Skopos Theory. Part Four talks about the application of the Skopos Theory, the writer demonstrates the translation methods and techniques through the specific examples. The last part is a summary of translation practice including the experience of translation and the introspection of translation.Through this translation practice, the writer has gained a lot.The writer has improved the translation level and mastered the skills of reading text, searching information and analyzing morphology and syntax.
