Under the background of economic globalization, multinational firms act as animportant economic force on the world stage, and create enormous economic interest.As some developed countries gradually raise their environmental standards andstrengthen the environmental regulations, more and more multinational firms began totransfer their polluting business to some developing countries, which have lowerenvironmental standards, imperfect legislation and system relating to environment.What’s more, these multinational firms don’t perform their responsibilities to protectenvironment, which destroy those developing countries’ environment, includingChina.This thesis is based on such serious environmental situation, firstly introducesthe conception of environmental protection responsibilities of multinational firms,secondly elaborates and studies in the world today within the scope of internationallaw and domestic law regulating the multinational firms’ environmental protectionresponsibility, meanwhile pointing out its problems and obstacles. Through theseanalyses, it finally puts forward some propositions of international law regulatingmultinational firms’ environmental protection responsibility, and further somesuggestions for improving the legal regulations in China.
