The Vitality And Ability Of Democracy: A Further Study On The Essence Of Democracy

On the research of democracy theory, the most common paradigms are idealismand realism. However, with the further development of the theory, the shortcomingsof the two models of democracy have been revealed. So, how to overcome theshortcomings is the main problem to be solved.In the practice of democracy, there are two extreme conditions, tyranny of themajority and the oligarchy. When People analyse these two situations,they oftenlook for a foothold of the analysis from the outside of democracy, rather than regardthe democracy as an organism and dig deeper factors within it. Thus, the articleadvocates pragmatism views, takes the deconstruction method to re-understand thenature of democracy, and analyses the substantial reasons for the democraticproblems, proposing the idea of pragmatism democracy.From the views of Pragmatism democracy about the values of democracy,democratic processes and the effect of democracy, and idealism and realism are verydifferent. According to Pragmatism democracy,it is a balance problem between thethree factors, not a priority one. In order to achieve a balanced development ofdemocracy, the article proposes to establish the self-debugging mechanism ofdemocracy, and finds two debugging dimensions,the vitality and ability ofdemocracy. Through the relationship of the vitality and ability,the article offers twopaths to resolve tyranny of the majority and oligarchy. First, adjust and rebuild therelationship between civil society and democratic countries. There are two mainmethods to achieve the path, namely Huntington’s model and governance model ofthe new era. Second, achieve a balance between the main democracy values. Thispath requires not only to meet the appropriate requirements of democracy valueslimits, but also to realize complementarity and coordination between the values.The balanced development of democracy is in favor of avoiding the twoextremes and getting a positive interaction between civil society and democraticstates, laying the foundation for the goal to realize of political order.
