In the year of1986, Vietnam began its Reform and Opening-Up policy. Sincethen, the development of Vietnam’s economy and society was speeded up. In recentyears, its economy develops rapidly especially compared with other SoutheastAsian countries. However, due to the imperfect political and economic systems andsome other factors, corruption becomes a very serious problem in its society.Sarcastically, a risk consultancy in Hong Kong even named Vietnam as "the thirdcorrupt country in Asia”, which means corruption has been a national disaster forVietnam. Facing the severe problems of corruption, the Vietnamese party andgovernment have taken various actions to cope with them. This thesis is dividedinto four parts. The first part is an introduction of the research background andresearch status in Vietnam domestic and abroad. The subjective and objectivecauses of the serious corruption problem are studied in the second part. The thirdpart analyzes the characteristics of Vietnamese serious corruption problems and theharmful consequences it brought. In the fourth part, we discuss how Vietnameseresponds to their domestic corruption problems and which actions they take tocombat corruption. Also their efforts in prevention and treatment of socialcorruption are evaluated in the end.
