the urban village is a special phenomenon under China’s urban-rural dual structure. It widely exists with the fast development of the city urbanization in this country. The reconstruction of urban villages becomes the most important tast to thoes big cities. The reconstruction of urban villages is far more than demolition and rebuilding.it involves the interests of three parties,namely the government, the villagers and the developers. Therefore, the key to a successful reconstruction is whether the interests of the above-mentioned parties could bebalanced, and the most important of all is the issue of resettlement and compensation,which is directly related to the interests of three parties and the most disputed.Presently,many civil scholars have put forward their views about the reconstruction of unban villages. Although these points of view have considerable depth and breadth there is a lack of studies toward the resettlement and compensation issue.Liede village, as the pioneer village in Guangzhou where the experimentation of reconstruction was made, first introduced the mode of involvement of developers in reconstruction and acquiring funds through the auction of land ownerhip. It created a number of firsts among similar urban villages under reconstruction in Guangzhou and even across the country; beneficial attempts and exploration concerning the transformation were the transformation were made, which helped to provide experience for the urban village renovation in Guangzhou. More important, existing problems should be solved and learned. The essay, taking the reconstruction of Liede village as an example, will explain the modes of resettlement and compensation in detail, and analyse the cost and effect, and finally put forward some suggestions for the future urban village reconstruction, especially in Guangzhou.
