| Ethnic identity plays a dominant role in multi-ethnic country. Maintaining ethnicidentity can facilitate ethnic group members to achieve unity and consistency incognition, behavior and feeling. Ethnic adolescents are the hope of the ethnic groups,thus, it is essential to explore the current situation of ethnic adolescents’ ethnicidentity. For Bai adolescents, there are few studies concerning ethnic identity of them.This quantitative study, therefore, attempts to explore the current situation of Baiadolescents as well as whether there exist differences in gender, age, and familybackground including registered residence of respondents, parents’ nationalities andparents’ education.The research design used in this study was descriptive and quantitativemethodology. The instrument was a12-item questionnaire in the format of five-pointLikert-type scale. The subjects were265Bai adolescents who study from juniorschool to college. In this study, SPSS11.5was used in data analysis, which includesfrequency distribution, percentages, means, independent t-test sample and one-wayMANOVA.The major findings from data analysis are as follows:1)Bai adolescentsincluding Bai junior school students, senior school students, and college studentshave strong ethnic identity.2) There is no significant difference between maleadolescents and female adolescents. Both male adolescents and female adolescentshave strong ethnic identity. And Bai male adolescents’ ethnic identity is stronger thanthat of Bai female adolescents3）junior students, senior students and college studentshave strong ethnic identity and with the increase of age and grade, ethnic identitybecomes stronger and stronger.4) In terms with family background, Ethnic identity ofBai adolescents from city is stronger than that of Bai adolescents from country. Interms of parents’ nationality, ethnic identity of the adolescents whose mother is Bai is stronger. And the higher education the parents possess, the higher ethnic identity Baiadolescents have. |
