Research Of The Relationship Of Vietnam And ASEAN After The Cold War

The relationship between Vietnam and ASEAN has gone through alleviation to rival, and then changed to alleviation. Their cooperating relationship has come into a high speed road after the Cold War, meanwhile there are many challenges and opportunities on the way. The process of the development of relations between Vietnam and ASEAN is intricacy and changeable.During the time from the independence of Vietnam in 1975 to before Vietnam joined in ASEAN, the relationship between Vietnam and ASEAN had changed and adjusted, under the circumstance of the Cold War, several factors of international environment and the relation of China, America and the Soviet. After the cold war, the relation between Vietnam and ASEAN got close soon. Vietnam joined in ASEAN in 1995, as a symbol of the relation between Vietnam and ASEAN steps into a new stage. Vietnam has become a member of ASEAN in result of the government of Vietnam modified the foreign policy, meanwhile it is a vital step of “Greater ASEAN”. Vietnam made its effort to play an energetic role after joined in ASEAN, result in that enhancing the international status of ASEAN. During the 20 years, the cooperation between Vietnam and ASEAN is satisfying. Vietnam and ASEAN made them effort to change Southeast Asia to be Peace, stability and prosperity region. However, there are many difficulties and disagreements in the process of cooperation, due to Vietnam has different political ideology and level of economic development with the other members of ASEAN. Vietnam has to identify with ASEAN on some questions to solve the problem, in order to make their relation more harmonious.From the point above, in the researching of the whole relationship between Vietnam and ASEAN, especially the vital stage is after the Cold War. I will also analysis the reasons and motivation of Vietnam joined in ASEAN. Then, I probe into the fields of their cooperation and make a summary about the collaboration outcomes in the 20 years. At last, there are some problems in their cooperation and the restricting factors in the development of their relationship.
