Study On Opportunities,Challenges And Their Impact Of Vietnam After Joining ASEAN

Association of South East Asia Nations(ASEAN)was formally established in Thailand on August 8th,1967.From the initial five founding members,ASEAN has now gathered 10 Southeast Asian countries to participate.After the 50 years of development,from the Association of Underdeveloped Countries,ASEAN has gradually become a vibrant economic development association.As an international organization,ASEAN has more partners in the world.Its role in the Asia-Pacific region has become increasingly prominent,while its position in the world has been constantly improving.These positions are reflected in the both field of economic and political cooperation.ASEAN member countries,including Vietnam,are neighbors with long-term friendly relations in the South East Asia.Vietnam has joined ASEAN since 1995.The case started back in 1986,Vietnam faced serious difficulties and challenges when carrying out reforms.At that time,Vietnam was not only facing a serious social and economic crisis at home and a threat to its national security,but also facing the embargo imposed by imperial and hostile forces and the obstacles in foreign relations brought about by the Cambodian issue.In this context,the Vietnamese communist party and government understood that the first priority to establish a peaceful and stable international environment and meet the country's development requirements is the close relations with neighbors.Therefore,in accordance with President Ho Chi Minh's diplomatic thoughts of " increasing friends and reducing enemies",Vietnam was gradually forming and implementing a foreign policy of wide opening,diversification and diversification,firstly starts from improving and developing cooperation relations with ASEAN countries.The improvement of relations with ASEAN countries,especially formal accession to ASEAN in July 1995,is Vietnam's process of handling a series of complicated foreign affairs.Vietnam has been committed to promoting open dialogue with ASEAN,and has taken the comprehensive improvement and resolution of the Cambodia problem as the initial step to improve relations with ASEAN.Since formally joined ASEAN,the Vietnamese government has actively promoted the establishment of cooperative relations with ASEAN members in many aspects.The achievement of joining ASEAN helps Vietnam to create and strengthen the peaceful environment and satisfy the vast foreign relations,Moreover,it creates favorable conditions for Vietnam to ensure their own interests,including employing regional resources,promoting domestic resources to serve the cause of innovating social and economic development,industrialization and national modernization.Developing comprehensive partnership with ASEAN also expand Vietnam's relations with other countries.It can be seen that joining ASEAN is an important milestone on Vietnam's development path.However,in addition to the achievements made in the participation process for more than 20 years,there were the difficulties that need to be overcome and eliminated and many existing problems Vietnam has faced.Vietnam's relations with ASEAN are still limited in terms of quality,efficiency and depth.At the same time there is the lack of stability,stability,long-term development and link between economic,security and political cooperation.Vietnam's cooperation with ASEAN is still passively dealing with some sensitive and emerging issues,especially the territorial disputes,natural resources,economic crisis related problems and coordination of actions on regional and international issues.Now Vietnam is looking for an efficient solution to some sensitive issues to avoid adverse effects on the country's political security,economic and social development,and to promote the prospect of Vietnam-ASEAN relations.For the expected international integration in 2025,Vietnam needs to formulate a complete external strategy and clearly define the strategy for this relation.From the above discussion,we will explore the opportunities,challenges and impacts Vietnam faces after joining ASEAN.This study also discusses the political,economic and security developments between Vietnam and ASEAN in the past 20 years.Furthermore,we aim at analyzing existing problems and potential achievement in Vietnam-ASEAN relations according to the cooperation between the two sides.
