Study Of Community Volunteer Service For The Elderly From The Perspective Of Social Work

At the present stage our country has already entered the aging era, there have appeared many nest family along with effective implementation of the one-child policy, so the traditional family endowment is now facing severe challenges. As a typical public institution, university strictly implements family planning policy, coupled with the special cultural atmosphere and the advantage of the university staff, whose children have significantly higher achievements in both education and profession, so the percent of the empty-nesters in university communities is much higher than other type of communities. And the university community endowment demand showed obvious industry characteristics.In response to these problems, this study takes the L university community as an example, and explores the special needs of the university community in depth. We found that the elderly, especially the elders with high education, have special cultural and psychological needs due to their career features and unique behaviors. In aspects of economic conditions, medical service and psychological comfort, elders with high education have reached the general conditions and even over general elderly, but they have special needs for social contacts and psychological communications, of which the service methods have distinct characteristics of knowledge and culture. Unfortunately, although university community has good conditions of material, knowledge and culture, it has few measures in how to utilize community cultural resources to meet the special needs of these elders. Particularly in terms of volunteer services, it lacks of a system design based on theories and methods of social work.The study found that university community has special resources in knowledge, culture and volunteer service. Owing to the natural occupational contacts and the huge student groups, mobilizing volunteer resources in university community effectively, providing volunteer services based on the special needs of elders with high education, and mobilizing the enthusiasm of community endowment by the approach of two-way volunteer service, are all important means to solve the special endowment problem. It can not only effectively solve the problem of university community endowment, but also has important inspiration significance in how to explore and integrate volunteer service resources and how to make a design of volunteer service in it.
