A Study On The Roles Of The U.S-ROK Alliance And The U.s-japan Alliance In The U.S Asia-pacific Strategy

Korea and Japan is not only two important countries in the Asia-Pacific region, but also strong allies of the U.S. The U.S-ROK Alliance and the U.S-Japan Alliance are both formed under the special background of Cold War after World War II. Although both two alliances occupy an important place in the U.S Far-East alliance system, but their position, properties and functional aspects are obviously different. The U.S-ROK Alliance and the U.S-Japan Alliance are both asymmetric alliances, but the discourse power of South Korea and Japan within the alliance is different.The Asia-Pacific rebalancing strategy is an important strategic decision in the United States. After Barack Obama was elected to be U.S President, the U.S government put forward to return to the Asia-Pacific region. This is a strategic adjustment based on the domestic situation and international environment change. So far, the strategy according to Obama’s presidency, divided into two stages, a mixed assessment of the first phase; the second phase is continuing.This paper analyzes the content and characteristic of the Asia-Pacific rebalancing strategy. Under the Asia-Pacific rebalancing strategy, the U.S-ROK Alliance and the U.S-Japan Alliance play significant roles in military, political and economic aspects. The two alliances need some adjustment under the game playing between America and China. Should the alliance be strengthened or weakened based on the response of China to the Asia-Pacific rebalancing strategy. The paper analyses the influence of the two alliances not only in regional security, but also in world peace and development. It is a challenge as well as a chance to China.
