In the end of 2014, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited to Fiji. This visit highlights that China pay more attention to the south pacific island country. The development of relationships and cooperation between China and Fiji,on the one side, is active as a result of bilateral strategic mutual need, on the other side, is a inevitable result of the objective conditions. Of course, as the comprehensive cooperative relations between China and Fiji developed, Chinese influence in the South Pacific islands countries is growing day by day. At the same time, this appearance makes the local powers and some foreign powers produce suspicion for Chinese strategic aim. But the reality is that the principle of "mutual respect, mutual support, sincere friendship, mutually beneficial cooperation and common development" which China always adhere to develop relations with the South Pacific island countries including Fiji, has won the favor of the local governments and people; China willing to continue to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, realize common development and common prosperity on the basis of mutual respect and equality. This will bring a new chapter in the development of relationships between China and Fiji.The thesis is divided into three parts to discuss the development of relationships between China and Fiji. The first part describes the exchange of politics, economy, culture, education and so on between China and Fiji. Show the fruitful results in the bilateral ties of China and Fiji in twenty-first Century, and summarizes the characteristics of diplomatic relations. The second part analysis reasons of China develop relations with Fiji. On the one hand, it from the necessity of strategic security, economic interests, political interests and some other essential factors to analyze; on the other hand, it from the history of relationships between China and Fiji, Fiji’s diplomatic strategy, Fiji’s own conditions and some other possible factors to analyze. In the end, it describes the challenge for the development of bilateral relations and the measures required to make. Meanwhile, it makes an outlook on the development of bilateral relations:the construction of the maritime Silk Road’s extension in twenty-first Century and the Asian infrastructure investment bank provides an important new opportunities for the development of relations between the two countries. The status of the two countries in each other’s foreign strategy will undoubtedly continue to improve, China and Fiji will form a close strategic partnership.Research of this paper focuses on the relationships of China and Fiji. For one thing, it systematically hackles the relations of the two countries, for an other, this bilateralrelations is a microcosm of the relations between China and the South Pacific countries. This study has made a point of exploration for the research of the relationships between China and the other South Pacific island countries.
