Library legislation is the fundamental guarantee of the Library development. In1850, the British Parliament enacted the first British public library law which is the first national library law of the world. After the promulgation of this Act, many cities in UK adopted the law by voting. Since then, British library specialized law extended to Scotland and Northern Ireland. Other relevant laws and industry standards are constatly improving. Now there is a perfect legal system of libraries which provides the legal protection for the development of British libraries in UK. It vigorously promotes British librarianship.The paper adopts literature survey, historical research and system method, tracing the origin and development of British library laws. Through analyzing the level of British library laws, introducing the legal system of libraries at national and local levels.
