After more than30years of the reform and opening-up policy of the reform andopening-up policy, profound changes have taken place in Chinese society, and itsorganization form, social structure and interests pattern have also changed dramatically. At the same time, the value of the whole society begin to present a pluralistic, diverseand complex and changeable situation, while the mental attitudes of Chinese peoplealso begin to show historical changes. Under the context, people’s view of Right andWrong, view of social values and view of good and evil upheld previously also seem tohave lost its realistic rationality. The problems of failing to distinguish right fromwrong, confusion in honor or disgrace, the perversion of Good and Evil happen fromtime to time. Therefore. the phenomenon of moral indifference also begin to appear, and the social moral life gradually show the characteristics of chaos and disorder. Thethesis aims to explore the essence of the problem of moral indifference from theperspective of ethics, to explore its causes, and to try to seek the ways to solve theproblem. The thesis hopes to enrich the theoretical research of related issues, and toprovide some practical reference for through moral indifference problems incontemporary China. The thesis is divided into two parts: the introduction and the text. The part ofintroduction briefly introduces the topic selection of thesis, research status of home andabroad, basic ideas and innovative points. The text includes for chapters. The First Chapter includes two parts: the concept of moral indifference definitionand the category of the phenomenon of moral indifference.First, an overview andanalysis of the definitions of moral indifference from main scholars in the currentacademic circles are summarized. Based on the definitions, the thesis defines moralindifference as a distorted moral psychology and behavior, which mainly present as thenumbness and deficiency of subject’s moral emotions, fail and suspension of moraljudgments, and the negative acts in moral behaviors. Second, the categories of moralindifference are classified on the basis of different subjects, and are mainly classifiedas moral indifference of bystanders and recipients. The Second Chapter describes the main characteristics of the moral indifference, and then shows the dangers of moral indifference might bring. The author believes thatthe lack of moral sensibility, the failure, suspension of moral judgment, the lack of moral concern, the loss of their sense of moral obligation and the negative acts of moralpractices are all the distinguishing features of moral indifference. The alienation ofmoral relationship, the decrease of recipient expectations, the lack of moralself-discipline, and the weakening of moral regulation ability are all the possiblenegative consequences. The Third Chapter is an in-depth exploration of the ethical causes of the problemof moral indifference based on reality. This thesis will mainly classify them into threecategories, namely the causes of subject’s moral, the deficiency of moral education andthe problems of social moral background. Among them, the reasons for subject’smorality include the deflects of moral cognition, the plain of moral emotions, theweakness of moral will and the lack of moral faith. The deficiency of moral educationincludes problems of moral education concept, moral education content and moraleducation methods. The problems of social moral background mainly includes thedisorder of moral value orientation caused business social changes and weakness ofmoral support in institutions. The Fourth Chapter is specific strategies and countermeasures to cope withproblems of moral indifference. This thesis argues that, first of all, should highlightself-discipline and responsibility of the subjects, so as to improve their intrinsiccultivation. Specifically it includes deepening the moral cognition, cultivating themoral emotions, to strengthen their moral will and to develop moral habits. Second, moral education should be improved from aspects of education, content and measures.Third, perfect system institution construction is also a good way in dealing withphenomenon of moral indifference. After all, in general,as long as the system isreasonable, it will effectively inhibit the occurrence of the evilness, and to providenecessary premise for the occurrence of the good. Thus it not only contains profoundethical attributes, but more profound positive ethical effects than general moral rules. Therefore the external social system should also be on the basis of behavioral scienceand moral rules, so as to guide people to make good behavior, to create a good moralenvironment and to provide external incentive and guarantee mechanism.
