Research On The Living Status Of The Rural Widowed Elders And Their Widowed Adjustment

Death of a spouse is inevitable in the elderly living life, which has social practicalstudy significance, especially about the widowed elders’ living conditions and how toadapt to the life without the spouse.The writer takes two villages (JL village and JS village) in S county as examples,regarding the rural widowed elders as the research object. With the methods ofquestionnaire, literature review and interviewing, the paper describes the living conditionof the widowed elders in rural areas and how to adapt to the new life vividly. Theinvestigation discovered:(1) The living condition of the widowed elders in rural areas ismore severe than the ordinary old man, especially in the aspect of family, economy andphysical;(2) The influence of the widowed event for them is various, including physicalhealth, mental health damage and the change of social support;(3) Individual, economic,family, socio-cultural factors affect the life of the widowed elders in rural areas;(4)According to psychological adjustment, adjusting family relations and expanding thesocial support, the widowed elders adapt to the new life gradually.On the foundation of research, this article puts forward the countermeasures ongovernment, society and personal levels to improve the living conditions of the ruralwidowed elders, making them better adapt to new life.
