For China, the rise of status, extension of national interest as well as emerging of the non-traditional threats enables the participation of UN peacekeeping one of the normal military activities. As a kind of transnational military action, peacekeeping operations will be inevitably connected with a great many legal issues related to international laws, and the research of these issues not only meets the practical needs of the enhancing peacekeeping operations in accordance with international laws, but also meets the requirement of the need of improvements military law in supporting of the military operations and becomes an important topic for the innovation of military laws under new times.This article is divided into4parts. The first part is mainly about the overview of United Nations’peacekeeping operations, which includes the concept, origin and recent development of UN peacekeeping operations. And second part, operations, is mainly to elaborate the process and significance of the participation of UN peacekeeping operations by Chinese PLA, as well as the critical role the legal support along with the operations.The third part is to elaborate basic legal issues related to the participation of UN peacekeeping operations, which after theoretical discussion, answers to the law basis, principles, restrictions, protection, responsibilities, and drop out mechanism of the basic legal issues.Part four concerns some suggestions, which focuses on how to build a sound legal system, how to carrying out UN peacekeeping operations under law enforcement and handle legal affairs properly, how to make preparations to peacekeeping mission, and on a whole, aims to provide guidance and reference for PLA to carrying out UN peacekeeping operations in a legal and stable way.
