Employment And Empowerment Of Community Vulnerable Groups

Community vulnerable groups are those groups or classes, who live in one community for long-term, owing to economical, physiological and social issues, they stay in lower social position. As the government focusing on community affairs, community vulnerable groups’ salvation research, especially research on social work intervention of employment, has significance in practice. Community vulnerable groups have3disempowerment features, lacking of material and social resources, weak education background and losing political utterance. Furthermore, they are also suffering from economical, living and mental pressure.With the help of residential committee, social workers conduct interview and investigate the working demand, they help family members in straitened circumstances in Yangjing Community to work in Yangjing Charity Shop as temporary employee. According to the follow-up of the project, after working in Yangjing Charity Shop, those family members were competent at the job, had high job satisfaction, showing a sense of achievement, had no working pressure practically and built a good relationship with co-workers.In addition, we found that working in Charity Shop cannot improve the sense of self-efficacy or improve interpersonal communication skills, but it can make the temporary employees feel more confidential to the future life, increase the interpersonal impact and community participation. According to Zimmerman, one level improved can predict empowerment increased. Therefore, we recognized working in Charity Shop can improve empowerment.Based on the research findings, we reach a research conclusion, involving social work proposal and Charity Shop policy suggestion. Social work proposal emphasize social work value, strengthen the practice of social work and the spirit of innovation. As for Charity Shop policy suggest, in macroscopic view, we suggest a overall planning of the Charity Shop, and in microscopic view, we suggest offer diversified payment mode to the temporary employees.
