Study About Marine Security And Education About Marine Security In Late Qing Dynasty

Late Qing Dynasty(1840-1912) is a historical period that suffers serious threats and challenges from the marine. To strengthen researches on marine security and education about marine security, having a correct understanding about the situation, in order to better defend our country’s marine rights and security, for our country towards from a country with vast seas to a powerful marine nation has important theoretical and practical significance. It has crucial theoretical and practical significance for China to realize the conversion from great sea power to marine power, defending our marine security and marine rights and interests, to strengthen the research on marine security and education about marine security and have a correct understanding about the situation in Late Qing Dynasty.This paper takes a variety of methods to probe into marine security and education about marine security in Late Qing Dynasty, and holds an opinion that the marine in Late Qing Dynasty was faced with threats and challenges from both traditional and non-traditional marine security. On the issue of education about marine security, private school and academy education in Late Qing Dynasty rarely involve that kind of education, however, some official schools especially those new-style schools which were set up in the middle and last period of Late Qing Dynasty involved education about the marine security, but what the education mainly embodied was “technological determinism”, a thought that to rely on the learning and applying of those advanced western technology can safeguard marine security,the importance of systematic education about marine security was ignored.Therefore,on one hand we need to greatly strengthen national defense construction,especially the construction of coastal defense and the navy, to construct navy becoming a strong power in the sea. On the other hand, we also need to strengthen education about marine security comprehensively and systematically, to popularize and enrich knowledge of marine security, to enhance awareness of marine security,sense of responsibility and sense of urgency of all the citizens and lay a solid foundation for our country towards to achieve a conversion from a country with vast seas to a powerful marine nation.
