Analysis On The Thought Of Filial Piety In The Analects Of Confucius, Mencius, And The Filial Piety

When it comes to filial piety, it seems that it is naturally generated. As a matter of fact, being a kind of social ethics, it must be based on a certain social relations when it appears, and it is inseparable from the needs of the social subjects, on the premise of family relations and economic relations formed by the authority of the father. As a Confucian classic, although "The Analects", "Mencius" and "Principles of Filial Piety" were written in the different historical period, they provided us with a whole set of theory of filial piety. As the basic content of filial piety, "filial piety", "loyalty" and "loving and respecting one’s elder brother" theory not only has played an important role in civilization order and social stability in China for thousands of years, but also has a strong reference value for today’s moral construction. Three works of "The Analects", "Mencius" and "Principles of Filial Piety" taken as the research basis, this paper analyzes the origin, the meaning and its content of "filial piety", and studies in detail the loving and respecting kinsfolk, giving advice to kinsfolk politely, inheriting ancient sages ambition for behavior, and three years of mourning in "The Analects". For "Mencius", it mainly studies the inheritance and development of the thoughts of Confucius filial piety by Mencius, supporting and waiting upon parents in life, funeral and sacrifice after the death of parents, and getting married and having children to continue the family line, etc. For the study of "Principles of Filial Piety", it mainly determines the status of filial piety and defines the concept of filial piety and three levels of filial piety. Meanwhile, it expounds the relationship between filial piety and loyalty as well as "twenty-four kinds of filial piety", and makes a dialectical analysis of the "twenty-four kinds of filial piety". Filial piety handed down from the ancient times, is the excellent traditional virtue of the Chinese nation, and holds an important position in the history of Chinese culture. Flourish development of the society can’t do without development of filial piety culture that is linked to the close relationship between relatives. Therefore, to promote the development of the filial piety culture, and to strengthen the social consciousness of filial piety, can improve the level of social morality, which can be helpful for the harmonious development of socialism.
