Research On Community Ethnic Relationships Of Qilihe District Of Lanzhou City

With the development and expansion of the trend that different ethnics inhabit an area together, it has been an important research topic in ethnology circles to study the ethnic relationship in these mixed ethnic areas. There are two reasons for this phenomenon:first of all, due to urbanization, more ethnic minorities migrate in cities, which accelerates the phenomenon of different ethnics inhabiting an area together and complicates ethnics’ relationships. On the other hand, it is the demand for ethnic minorities to enjoy and guarantee their right of national equality. Therefore, the author chose north street community of Langongping in Qilihe district in Lanzhou city as an example to study ethnic relationships in urban community. Starting with analysis of ethnic relationships and its existing problems, the author explores relevant factors affecting ethnic relationships, which provides solutions and suggestions for establishment of harmonious ethnic relationships in cities. The research of ethnic relationships in north street community of Langongping not only improves residents’ ethnic relationships, but also affords some theoretical and practical foundations.The investigation site of this paper is in north street community of Langongping of Xihu Street in Qilihe district in Lanzhou city. The author has conducted deep contacts and interviews with administrative staff members and residents in this community. The interviews include basic situation of these residents, their personal information, living status, migration and employment, income and consumption, religious life, self-development and ethnic relationship etc. Based on the interview records and corresponding analysis, the author carries out case study and cross-case studies to describe, analyze and summarize ethnic relationships.
