This essay is a case study of 2011 national image publicity film of China, which consists of Chinese people chapter and multi-faceted angles chapter. The film is a conducive governmental endeavor in public diplomacy which aims at expressing Chinese image by media to America and the whole world as well. While it turned out to be unsatisfactory and failed to live up to Chinese government’s original expectations. The essay will go through the case above and offer a more modified strategy on public diplomacy.An elaborate analysis on the details of the film including Chinese people chapter and multi-faceted angles chapter is involved in this essay by which a comprehensive image of China the film intended to express is depicted. In conclusion, the film is the way “how we express ourselves”. Meanwhile, the essay also focuses on American distortion about China’s image from a Sino-America relationship perspective. Based on the frame of media theory, an American media preference on this film is listed which demonstrates “how we are expressed”. It is concluded that the American media’s responses differ from the original expectations of Chinese government and what the American response is distorted.Finally, the essay explores the reason why the distortion exists from a diversified aspect including cultural conflicts, Sino-American relationship and communication strategy in order to modify the public diplomacy strategy, build and express a more exact, and construct a more favoring international community for our development.
