Yu Dayou was a famous Anti-Japanese commander during the regin of Emperor Jiajing 、 Longqing and Wanli in Ming dynasty, and obtained great achievements on his career. He created a great deal of precious theories about coastal defence which was came up under the direct of his coastal defence experiences for more than 40 years. From my point of view, the most precious theories which were created by Yu dayou was suppose to be the Coastal Defence Geographical thoughts. The thesis include three aspects of researchs, which was base on Yu’s coastal defence experiences and his relevant historical datas:1)Yu’s naval battle geographical thoughts;2)Yu’s cartography thoughts;3)Yu’s antipirate by the armed forces of Potuguese in Macao.Naval battle theory was an important element in Yu’s coastal defence thought, whereas geographical thoughts was the key factor of which consist the naval battle theory.During Yu’s experiences of naval battels, the most distinguished should be the battle against Zeng Yiben in the 3rd year during the reign of Longqing in Ming dynasty.Producting and using of military map was not only the most direct way to illustrate Yu’s costal defense thoughts, but also played an significant role in Yu’s military practice.Above all the military maps which was produced by Yu dayou, the illustration of Jiaozhou and Qiongzhou was the outstanding one, which displayed Yu’s cartography skills and his costal defense thoughts.Instead of the traditional approaches of dispatching soilders which was inclined to folk custom or soldiers’ fighting force, Yu Dayou preferd Portuguese or Chinese merchants in Macao who owned advanced armaments. The “Battle of Sanmen”was the most remarkable practice which represented thoughts of “using aliens against pirates”.
