Nowadays national security issues are the most urgent and pointed. Since the period from 90-ies of XX century to XXI century, events has shown that the current issues of national security have been undergoing dramatic changes under the influence of political, socio-economic, religious, environmental and cultural processes taking place both in the states as well as in the world.There are different approaches to give the definition of national interests and national security at all. Widely, national security is a complex of military security, economic prosperity, full control over a certain territory and population, as well as independence in decision-making about domestic issues and in international level.National security remains the one of the most important and priority needs for any state, Significant changes, occurred over the past two decades, in the balance of political and military forces, in technology use of conventional and nuclear weapons, in the emergence of new types of weapons have forced many countries and their leaders to estimate Russia and America, as subjects of international relations.Majority of experts have identified two groups of factors that affect the process of ensuring the national security of a State, these are external and internal. The external factors include the interdependence of states from each other, cooperation with various international organizations, participation in international conflict resolution, the fight against international terrorism. The internal factors include the territory of the State(integrity), as a major, fundamental part of national security; country resources; the balance of the vital interests of the individual, society and the state(people’s lifestyle and identity), as well as the balance of economic, political, environmental and military capabilities of the state.The purpose of the thesis is a comparative analysis of the national security strategy of Russia and the United States. For the most complete disclosure of the dissertation purpose, following objectives were established: consider the theoretical aspects of strategic culture and national security; display the evolution of the national security strategy of Russia and the US and its distinctive characteristics; follow the evolution of new ideas and trends on national security issues; define the current challenges.Purpose and objectives made for the structure and scope of the thesis. The thesis consists of an introduction, three chapters, each of which is subdivided into several paragraphs, conclusion, list of references and acknowledgements.Empirical basis of this research were the main existing federal legislation, vision and strategy of the Russian Federation and the United States in the regulation of national security issues: The Constitution of the Russian Federation, 1993; The conception of the state national policy of 15 June 1996; National Security Conception of the Russian Federation 1997, 2000; The Foreign Policy Conception of the Russian Federation(28 June 2000); The Foreign Policy Conception of the Russian Federation of 12 July 2008; Military Doctrine of the Russian Federation, 2000; " Security law" March 5, 1992(as amended with 25 July 2006).U.S. National Security Strategy 2002, 2006; various directives, doctrines and programs about national security issues, the resolution of hearings on security issues and the development of Russian-American relations, and the Council on Foreign Relations.This also should include other regulations that are responsible for anti-terrorist activities in the state, informational, international, environmental and other areas of security. In particular, the Federal Law "Combating Terrorism" of March 6, 2006(as amended July 27, 2006); Federal Law "Information, informatization and information protection", 1995; Information Security Doctrine of the Russian Federation September 9, 2000.
