Study On The Social Support System Of Chinese Urban Community Empty-nesters

With the accelerated process of urbanization and the further degree of ageing population, The structure of C hinese tradition family has been gradually changing, becoming the core and miniaturization day by day. In this context, the acceleration of population movements and the changes in traditional concepts of family support, result in the elderly and their children living apart universally, and spawning a large number of empty nest elderly in the urban communities. However, due to the unsustainable traditional Family pension mode, the slow development of community nursing functions, and the deficiency of current social security system, the pension problem of the group is becoming increasingly acute and their living conditions and quality of life is increasingly affected by social concerns. According to the theory of social support, social support system is divided into physical, life care and spiritual comfort subsystems. The essence of city community Empty Nester endowment is the process of meeting the above three levels of demand. Therefore, the study of social support system, is the key element of understanding of the Group’s pension problem accurately.Taking this as the breakthrough point, this study adopts the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods of sociology, use of literature analysis, questionnaire, case interview and so on synthetically. First, this article divides the city community spatial nests’ demand into economic sustenance, life care and spiritual comfort,and summarized the main contents included under each dimension; Secondly, through the questionnaire survey, this article Roughly comprehends the basic situa tion, the life condition and the demand of society support of the empty nester, and makes a deep understanding of the operation status of their social support system. Meanwhile, the researcher has carried on the descriptive statistical analysis in the supply and demand situation in these three aspects, getting a more comprehensive grasp of the group’s life and support demand. Thirdly, the author conducts an interview to more than ten person including the city community empty nesters,their family members a nd the worker in the Residents’ Committees, combines the results of interviews with quantitative research to deepen the perceptual understanding of the problem, and refines the problems faced by the social support systems in the economic support, life care and spiritual comfort 3 sub-system.Then, this article, from laws and regulations, the social security system, community development as well as older ideas perspectives, diagnose the reasons that lead to the problems faced by the city community empty nes ters’ social support system. Finally, this article, making "multi conspiracy, collaborative participation" for principles, proposes that we should strengthen the introduction of the social work personnel based on the existing "family-oriented, Government-backed and community participating" pension pattern, to satisfy the demands of city community empty nester through its professional philosophy and methods, and puts forward the specific proposal to improve the social support systems.
