Challenges And Opportunities Faced By The Credibility Of Criminal Justice In The Era Of New Media

The Third Plenary Session of the 18 th CPC Central Committee has opened a new chapter for the comprehensively deepening reforms of our judicial system. One of the most important tasks of ruling the country according to law is to enhance the credibility of judiciary. And now we have entered into the era of ‘Big Data’, which is a media increasingly active era. Blog, Microblog and Wechat make it possible for everyone of us to post and spread news in our life, which is a great change in the way of information transmission. According to the ‘35th Statistical Report on Internet Development in China’ released by China Internet Network Information Center(CNNIC), China now has 649 million Internet users, of which the micro-blog users reached 249 million. ‘New media’ has become an important part of people’s life. The main study object of this thesis is the challenges and opportunities brought about by New Media to the credibility of criminal justice of our country, and this thesis also tries to find out the methods to promote the credibility of our criminal justice.Judicial authorities’ using of New Media to a certain extent narrows the distance with the public, and also can help to promote the credibility of our criminal justice, but if the methods of using New Media are not appropriate, its shortcomings will still become a hazard to the credibility of our criminal justice.The emergence of New Media does provide a new way for the disclosure, the supervision and the education of criminal justice, but also has brought some challenges to our criminal procedure because of its unique specialties. The judicial authorities should firmly grasp the opportunities of the media to enhance the credibility of criminal justice, and the judicial authorities should response reasonably while facing risks and challenges.
