There is an ancient saying in China: “food provision is the priority of peoples living, so safety is the base of food provision.” Only safe and clear vegetables can guarantee a prosperous and contented life for all residents and a sustainable development for a country. Several security incidents from the 2010 toxic cowpeas event in Hainan, followed by formaldehyde cabbage in 2012, and then by Shen Nong Dan poison gingers in 2013, have triggered public attentions on food safety. Although the government has introduced several safety legislations and carried out a series of measures, the prospect of vegetable safety is still not cheerful at present. Only legislation interferences also brought limited effect to the market. In the process of vegetable safety innovation, it is not enough to rely on the restrain of law and institutional management. Therefore, in the considerations of safe production of vegetables, to build an ethical system with Chinese characteristics by referring to the excellent research results both home and abroad and put it in the practice of vegetable production have great theoretical and practical significance.The food safety problem is a worldwide issue. Even in some developed countries, there are still the same issues, which can lead to social ethical and moral crisis. So it has caused the world attention. All countries are trying to find better solutions. In recent years, China’s vegetable safety crisis is becoming more and more serious. There are problems in the process of Vegetable cultivation, food production and circulation. The main reasons for these problems is that the professional moral anomie and lack of ethical responsibility of the enterprises, government, consumers and media. The second part deeply analysis and research on the quality problem, exists in the vegetable industry in our country.The full text is divided into three parts.In the first part, the thesis theoretically discusses the vegetable safety and ethical appeals. Based on the clarification of the safe vegetables and vegetable safety concepts, the thesis expounds ethical essence of vegetable safety, and further discusses the vegetable safety demands on life ethics; safety vegetable production demands on ecological ethics; the sustainable development of vegetable enterprises demands on business ethics.From the ethical level, the second part deeply analysis the quality problems, which exists in the vegetable industry in our country. These problems include the anti-ethical business of vegetable enterprises, the distorted consumer values, and the Ethics Anomie of the vegetable safety supervision personnel, etc… And then the author analyzes the ethical reasons of China’s vegetable safety: the lack of moral conscience of vegetable enterprises and the occupation morality anomie of vegetable safety supervision personnel; the lack of ethical responsibility of the vegetable enterprises and vegetable safety supervision personnel; the lack of agricultural ethics of our vegetable growers.In the third part, the thesis put forward some ethical paths to improve China’s vegetable safety. These paths are to strengthen the moral education of vegetable business enterprises, to attach great importance to the media guide for ethical responsibility and consumer’s consumption ethics education, and to cultivate the ethical responsibility of vegetable safety regulatorsChinese citizens are crying for safe vegetables. There is absolutely a need for the construction of a perfect vegetable quality system. Practice has proved that the construction of the system needs the involvement of ethics. Exploration of ethic requirements for the safety of vegetables could boost the improvement of market principles and perfect the regulations of supervision authorities. Moral restraint has tremendous affections for the systematic construction and healthy development of the market. The purpose of this paper is to provide life ethical support and practical approaches to ensure the vegetables safety in China.
