Research On Traffic Congestion Problems In Xi’an Urban

In recent years, with the rapid development of China’s economy and society, the number of cities with a population of more than millions increases quickly. All kinds of problems, along with western urbanization, also begin to appear day by day. Among, the urban traffic congestion is the biggest problem. At present, the speed of China’s urban development is far higher than that of the traffic development in the country. The traffic problem has affected further development of many cities. Therefore, it is an urgent problem to be solved, to relieve urban traffic congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow. To solve this problem, we need to have a full understanding of the importance of urban traffic and the present situation, to put forward scientific, reasonable and feasible traffic management measures. Thus, we can ensure the urban political, economic, social and ecological harmonious development.Xi’an used to be the capital of thirteen dynasties. It is a key city with important role in politics, economy and culture historically and presently. It is also the largest transportation hub and the financial core in western China. With the construction of "Guanzhong-Tianshui" economic zone, Xi’an is gaining more importance in its status. But at the same time, traffic jam begins to restrict the development of Xi’an city. Relieving urban traffic congestion and ensuring smooth traffic flow has set as a people-benefit project by the local government. With such a background, this paper utilizes the Marxism theory, economic theories and management theories to discuss and research about the traffic congestion problems in Xi’an. The first part of the paper summarizes the present researches about traffic congestion at home and abroad. It defines relevant concepts involved in the traffic jam; the second part of the paper, based on Marx’s theory of social capital reproduction, analyzes the correlation between transportation and economic and social development. And it concludes that the traffic has an important influence on economic and social development; The third part focuses on the analysis of the present situation and reasons of Xi’an urban traffic congestion; The fourth part, starting from the actual condition, takes scientific and reasonable traffic demand management, to develop public transportation, etc. It puts forward some suggestions to solve the problems of xi’an urban congestion.
