A Study On The Identity Of East Asian Under The Perspective Of China, Japan And South Korea

The end of the Cold War and the disintegration of the Soviet Union symbolize the radical collapse of the bipolar structure between America and the Soviet Union, the two hegemonies. The regional powers which were originally covered by the super powers were rising continuously. The development of the international society was controlled by the emerging regional powers. However, this regional integration didn’t go forward in the East Asia where the economy developed rapidly. Analyzing its reasons, besides the historical entanglement, territorial dispute, ideology and other aspects, the more important reasons are the same values, norm of behavior, regional identify are not formed there. During the process of the history development, East Asia appeared two kinds of identity modes-East Asian tributary system and Great East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere. But because of the unequal relationship among the countries and Japan’s colonialism, these tow modes were not suitable to East Asia and finally failed. In nowadays’economic globalization, some successful regional integration examples in European Union and other places showed that the form of regional identity plays a very important role in regional development. The main countries in East Asia - China, Japan and South Korea-have some similarities in their culture, because Japanese and Korean culture comes from ancient China. What’s more, the cooperation among these three countries’ governments and the non-government exchange are increasing progressively. All of them contribute to the regional identify and provide opportunity to form East Asian "Cultural Community". The East Asian Regional Identify benefits the stabilization and prosperity in East Asia, promotes the progress of the regional integration and at the same time benefits the development of China in the stable environment. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the path of building East Asian Regional Identify.First this thesis mainly talks about the effects of the identity of the structuralism constructivism, international system evolution theory and regionalism theory in structuralism, which provides the theoretical foundation for the East Asian Regional Identify. And then this thesis carefully analyzes the history of the development of the East Asian Regional Identify and points out that only based on the equality and mutual respect, can the East Asian Regional Identify be used in today’s east Asia arias and promote these arias development. In the following, this thesis analyzes two aspects- the advantageous and disadvantageous elements of building the East Asian Regional Identify. In advantageous aspect, it emphasizes on the Confucianism, Chinese characters and other ancient Chinese cultures as well as the development of media, internet, and other modern elements which improve the East Asian Regional Identify. In the disadvantageous aspect, it talks about the entanglement with history, territorial dispute and some other internal causes as well as other external causes from other great countries like America. And the interaction among these causes impedes East Asian Regional Identify. On this basis, the last chapter explores goals and ways to the construction of the East Asian Regional Identify.
