In order to maintain the sustainable development, ideological and political education makes the most contribution to the society. Civic education can not only enhance the construction of spiritual civilization, but also equip the socialist successors. The ideological and political education benefits the national harmonious development of society, prepares the elites for the social development and empowers the comprehensive national strength. Currently, the emphasis has been put on the ideological and political education. However, it cannot deny there are still some shortcomings. With the increasing development of economic globalization and integration, during the process of social transition, it is common that the cultural shock has varies impact on the people’s main value. In terms of U.S. which are one of the earliest countries that study and implement the civic education, after 240-year,America has been integrated as a highly developed modern state. With the unique theoretic system and rich practical experience, civic education has played an increasing important role in cultivating citizens, strengthening citizen consciousness and promoting social progress.The connection of civic education and ideological education is inextricably linked, although there exist the difference, the teaching content and teaching goals are basically same. Therefore, the achievement of American civic education is worth learning for enhancing the national ideological and political construction. At the same time, due to the difference of national conditions, education systems, it needs that insisting scientific outlook on development, drawing on the experience of American success to promote the efficiency and optimize ideological and political education in China.In this paper, the first chapter presents the background and significance of the study, the related literature has been reviewed with innovation and in-depth research method. The second chapter starts with the conception of civic education and ideological and political education, the similarity and difference has been shown,which aims at pointing out the theory evidence that American civic education is Chinese ideological and political education in a certain sense. From the perspective of history, content, approach and method, Chapter three analyzes the current statues of American and Chinese spiritual construction. The forth Chapter sums up the experience of American civic education and conclude the illuminations of Chinese ideological and political education. Moreover, by considering the problem and weakness, the suggestions have been provided. At last, it is summarized that this study plays an vital role in realizing high-quality ideological and political education,and promoting harmonious development.
