Study On The Theory Of Equality Of Opportunity In John E. Roemer

John E. Reomer, scholar of Analytical Marxism, is famous for his rigorous mathematical proposals for demonstration classical theories in Marx. In face of the challenges against socialism from western liberalism in political philosophy, Roemer focused on political philosophy theories and distribution justice research. He tried to establish theoretical models of egalitarian socialism for defense of Marx’s theories. Through deduction, Roemer formed up his egalitarian socialism theory with the equality of opportunity principles at its core. His equality of opportunity theory makes development for the justice notion of socialism, broadening horizons of socialism equality, pointing out new roads of socialism equality realization.However, as the Marx doctrine of Roemer inevitably produced a misreading of Marx’s classical theory, and Marx’s method due to its methodological individualism resulting from the traditional, the theoretical results and Marx have a significant deviation, is convincing enough.However, being as western Marxism scholar, although Roemer took parts of the classical theories of Marxism in "scientific and technological" redefine, his theoretical results hardly be identical to original intention of Marx, for his individualism methodology away from classical Marxism. Moreover, the differences between theoretical models and reality make it less possible for practicing.This article focuses on Roemer’s equality of opportunity theory, firstly make it clear that the developments and turns on political philosophy of analytical Marxism and his egalitarian thoughts from his former theories. Secondly through fundamental theoretical aspects on values, basic principle, EOp models and realization road, making clear analysis of his theory, grasping the key point of egalitarian socialism notion in Roemer. Finally, by evaluation on his theory models on academic position and values, help to understand the true meaning of Marxism social formation doctrines over profound consideration.
