Research On The Problem Of Cyber Democracy In Contemporary China

The way people communicate with each other has profoundly changed since the emergency of Internet. Information technology revolution represented by Internet has turned human society into network society, and affected almost every aspects of human life, including democratic politics. The character shown as "equality", "freedom" and "decentralization" is essential, as Internet may provides ideal conditions for the development of democratic politics, but the drawbacks may also challenge our traditional democratic values andpolitical order. So the purpose of this paper is to propose a suggestion for promoting the development of Cyber-democracy, especially for the problems of Cyber-democracy in China, after the study of Chinese and western network democracy theory. To start with a review of the relevant literature;Then in the second, this paper define the concept of Cyber-democracy and analyze its character in China’s unique political environment;In the third part, the state of China’s Cyber-democracy development is summed up; In the fourth part, some restrictions on the development of Cyber-democracy is summarized,including the plight of freedom and order in transitioal China,tendency of the Pan-entertainment due to lack of ration, the shortage of regulation, and the homogeneity of network. In the final part, suggestions is made to improve the development of Cyber-democracy in China from the prerspective of bridging the digital gulf, improving citizen’s literacy, supervising network with law and morality. A great prospective of the network democracy construction is wished sincerely in the conclusion part.
