Because the costal defense is the key of Ming Dynasty’s defense strategy, the government built up a system and careful defense along the vast coastline. As a coastal city of Zhejiang province, Wenzhou had played an important role, which could be regarded as a prototype of Ming Dynasty. It was not only the epitome of Zhejiang’s costal defense, but also the witness of Ming Dynasty’s.The construction of costal defense experienced three periods based on the features in different times. At the early stage of the Ming Dynasty, the Wenzhou’s costal defense established quickly, which built an effective coastal defense line. During this period, the Ming Dynasty built the coastal defense including military affairs, Japanese invaders and the coastline in Wenzhou, and restored the walls in different administrative regions, which set up the basic framework of coastal defense system.During the Mid-Ming Dynasty, the costal defense built massively and the Japanese invader had undergone a powerful impact to the coastal defense system. Facing the problem, the government of Wenzhou reconstructed it and the folk also had participated in it, which was overlooked by the former. In the late Ming Dynasty, the construction had formed at last. After the Jiajing time, the coastal area is relatively peaceful and changed a lot at home and abroad. The construction shifted the attention from coast to northeast gradually. Wenzhou defense system was gradually perfect and this period had achieved relatively good results.After discusses the process of the construction of the coastal defense of Wenzhou in Ming dynasty, the thesis also specifically expounds the core problem, namely the military issues. The issue even influences the result of costal defense. This part will simply introduce the source and use about it. It will help catch on the construction of costal defense. This problem was ignored in the past. At last, based on the complexity of costal defense, the paper evaluates the coastal defense of Wenzhou from two aspects systematically and comprehensively.
