As one of the two superpowers,The Soviet Union had dominated international affairs with the United States in the 20 th century. And The Soviet Union had been the leader of the socialist camp against the capitalism camp led by the United States for nearly half a century. On the other hand,Pakistan is China’s friendly neighbouring country, and there is a solid friendship for a long time. These two countries are China’s important neighbors,so,researching the relationship between them is of great significance to our country’s Peripheral policy making. From the foundation of the dominion of Pakistan in 1947 to the Bangladesh independence from Pakistan in1971,The relationship between the two countries can be clearly divided into three different phases. The first phase, which began with the creation of Pakistan and ended in1953,was nearly characterized,by an attitude of indifference and coolness on the part of the Soviet Union. The second Phase began with Pakistan joining the American-sponsored military alliance system and ended in 1960.This phase was marked by an aggravation of tensions in the relations between the two countries. The third phase began in 1961 and ended in 1971.In this phase,Soviet efforts to keep Pakistan away from the United States started bearing fruit. And the normalization of the relation between the Soviet Union and Pakistan was in process. In general,The relationship between the Soviet union and Pakistan underwent a gradual transformation from indifference to the tension to the normalization.By investigating the Soviet-Pakistan Relations from 1947 to 1971, this essay attempts to explain the subtlety and complexity of the relations between The Soviet Union and Pakistan. With this study,I hope we can understand the Soviet-Pakistan Relations better, and to some degree, predict its future trend.
