In the new curriculum reform, a growing number of scholars gave adequate attention on reading. From strengthen the reading theoretical to lay emphasis on the reading teaching methods, all embody the importance of reading from the Chinese educators. The study of reading in recent years has made great achievements, but the students’ reading ability is still difficult to have big breakthrough, which is closely related with the development of reading part of Chinese textbooks.In this paper, studied the reading part of People’s Education Edition Chinese experimental textbook which is based on the compulsory education Chinese curriculum criterion and California middle school mother tongue language textbooks“the reader’s choice”grade 6-8 Student’s Book in United States,from the dimension of compare the reading course standard, structure, content and presentation through the literature research, quantitative research and comparative research to discuss the phenomenon and actual problems in the compilation of Chinese textbooks.This paper is made up of six parts. The preamble of the paper outlines the background knowledge, objects, significance, scope, methods, and dissection of the related concepts and structure of the research. The second part is a comparative study of middle school reading course standard between China and the United States. Part three is mainly about the comparison of reading framework of two kinds of books. Part four discusses the reading content of the two books from the aspects of reading assist system, literary selection system and the task design system. Part five compare the presentation of the two books from the three aspects: picture and sign arrangement, layout and visual color. Through the comparative study of the previous parts, part six made some problem for thought and discussion of reading development, and clearly point out the valuables of the textbooks in the United States, provide some reference for domestic research.
